Itsumo Nando Demo (Always With Me) English Lyrics

Itsumo Nando Demo (Always With Me) English Lyrics

Original Japanese Lyrics by: Kaku Wakako

Originally Performed by: Yumi Kimura

You call out to me from somewhere within my fragile soul

Your voice like fantasy, telling me to keep on dreaming

I can’t stop these tears from flowing, or the ache inside my heart

But on the other side of sadness, I know I’ll find you waiting there

Even if we fall, we see the boundless sky up above

Each time we gaze upon it, the blue seems to renew

Our spirits as we walk on this long, lonely road

The end can’t be seen so we must embrace possibility

As I bid farewell, my heart stops, in tenderness I feel

My silent body begins to listen to what is real

The wonder of this life and of death’s tranquil mysteries

The wind, town and flowers all dance in sweet unity

La la la la la la…

You call out to me from somewhere within my fragile soul

Your voice like fantasy, telling me to keep on dreaming

Why speak of sorrow, or life’s oh so painful woes?

Instead let those same lips, sing a gentle song of love

Never forget these memories so they may forever guide you

Heed their murmur, the undercurrent of life streaming through

Even if your dreams break, nostalgia will always remain

To remind you that those dreams glimpsed at what is precious, dear and true

Windows of beginning, stillness, new light of the dawn

Let my silent, empty body be filled up and then reborn

No need to search outside, or sail across the seven seas

Because shining here inside me, it’s right here inside me,

I’ve found the light of your voice; it has always been with me

La la la la la la…

Lyricist’s Notes:

I am a total Hayao Miyazaki fanatic, and Spirited Away is one of my favorite Miyazaki films so of course I had to make some sort of tribute of the musical variety! I always thought the ending theme was such a lovely piece so this is the result! But I have to admit, it just sounds better in Japanese.

And yes, there is an official english version of this song and it is beautifully sung by Australian artist Hayley Westerna. However, I felt the translation was rather off (though the english lyrics are still really pretty) so I decided to write my own version. You can watch/listen to the official english version here and the original Japanese version here.

Also for your entertainment, here is a gorgeous cover by a fellow youtuber katethegreat19, who inspired me to do my own cover and write these lyrics! She has just released her debut album called “Raindancer” under the stage name “Erutan,” which you can preview here; more information can be found on her official website as well as in this video. I highly recommend buying a copy of the CD- she deserves the support of the entire world, no hyperbole intended, she’s just that good!

  1. I loved your adaptation, it really touched me!
I recently tried to write a greek version of this song – although, I have to admit, I followed a much more word-by-word approach (yours looks so much more natural!!). Thank you!

    • Thank you for your kind words; they mean so much! A Greek version? That’s so cool! I’d love to take a look (I’m sure it’s great!) but sadly, I don’t know Greek. I really appreciate your comment, though! :)

  2. Isn’t there a verse in the song saying that even when a mirror shatters, a new scene is reflected in each of the remaining pieces? I thought that was a beautiful metaphor. This is a very nice translation though. Cheers.

  3. so beautiful.. watched the movie for the first time last night and it already holds a special place in my heart.. then upon reading your adaptation of the ending credit lyrics.. my heart sang ah! beautiful beautiful beautiful..
